The German Renaissance painter Albrecht Dürer has been one of the most innovative artists of his time and open to new imaging technology. If you come to Munich, you will be able to see his 1500 self-portrait in the Alte Pinakothek in which he shows himself as the personification of progress and pride in art production. What a better patron could we choose to preside over a week of coding, data analysis and visualization?

By the way: Coding Dürer follows the idea of Coding Da Vinci, a German open cultural data hackathon that started in 2014. Coding Dürer is similar, it only sets the focus on art-historical data.

And lastly: No particular knowledge on Dürer is necessary participating here. But if we do happen to create something that is related to Dürer, it would be fantastic.

This is a five days international and interdisciplinary Hackathon for Art History and Information Science that takes place March 13-17, 2017 in Munich, Germany

Just apply with this form until January 10.

Due to space and finances this is an event for the selected participants only.
However, we are planning to make parts public. Please stay tuned and frequently check our website for more information.
In the preliminary schedule we have indicated what parts are public and what are live-streamed. This might change until shortly before the event.

Accommodations will be provided by the organizational team. As participant you have received more information by email.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed after the event.

The hackathon takes place at Hubert Burda Media, Arabellastraße 21.

Check-in on Monday from 15:00, check-out on Friday until 12:00.

No special prior knowledge is required. If you are an art historian, you should know your own field and have an interest in data science and mixed methods. If you are an information scientist, you should know your field and have an interest in art history and mixed methods.

No particular knowledge on Dürer is necessary participating here. But if we do happen to create something that is related to Dürer, it would be fantastic, of course.

If you are coming from abroad, you may need to bring a power plug adapter for Germany.
